What is Palliative Care?

As patients progress to advanced stages in their illness, they should receive care that is consistent with their end-of-life wishes. Home based palliative care is specialized medical care focused on relief, comfort, and compassion for those living with serious illness. A team of doctors and healthcare providers work alongside the patient's current physicians in order to host a personalized environment of support for both the patient and their family. Because palliative care can be provided in conjunction with curative care, pain care teams aid pain management, comprehensive nursing care, counseling for psychosocial coping, and communication over options and expectations.
